SCOTTMC
LOGO.
It’s always felt a little disingenuous to call myself a creative, and then present myself and my work with default web fonts and off-the-shelf portfolio templates. This logomark is proof that my craft and creativity doesn’t just show up when there’s a client brief. It’s an intentional reminder to KEEP MAKING more on my own terms.

// THE_IDEA
I knew I wanted the logo to be an abstract glyph of an ‘S’ that could also be read as an ‘M’. 'SM' for Scott McIntosh. The initial idea I had made sense geometrically. Both letters break down into three primary strokes—‘S’ across horizontal tiers, ‘M’ across vertical columns. Angling the glyph at 45° felt like an easy solve to combine the two letters. It wasn’t. Script letters, bubble fonts, geometric angles, all were proving to be tricky.

// THE_BREAKTHROUGH
The turning point came as I started deconstructing and understanding bold blackletter fonts. I figured out how to use the bold stems with the thin ligatures to create the proper negative space needed to arrive at the final result.
